halloween festivities and a few recent sketches

Got to paint a bunch of faces yesterday (day of the dead style for myself, my husband, and my sis) for a little Halloween get-together...and carved an ok pumpkin the day before (my husband's tiki pumpkin put mine to shame for sure).  Not sure if I can get my hands on any pics from the night...if so, I'll try to post them later :)

Was fun to create things, but it's hard not to find or pick apart all the faults when you're the creator...which is kind of a lame attitude to have.  I need to just roll with mistakes or imperfections and focus on the process...a lot can be learned by "messing up" and sometimes it can even lead to inspiration to go in a different direction.

My 15 yr old niece wants her face done similar on Monday.  It'll be cool to have another shot at it with a little more time.

So, moving out of my comfort zone even more, I've decided to post a couple recent drawings from my sketchbook...uncomfortableness can lead to growth, right?

~ eye should start giving myself more credit for things...even if it's a failed attempt, it's better than none at all  ; )

love this site...check it out

About a year ago, I starting drawing in my sketchbook again (after a couple years of not picking up a pencil...yikes).  Over the span of a month, I must have bookmarked over 200 artist's sites and online galleries for inspiration. This is one of my favorites...

http://www.sketchtheatre.com/

You can watch videos of artists demoing quick sketches of their work (and they pair it with music, which is cool).  Looks like they've added lots more artists since I checked it out last a few months ago.

I made some progress today as far as painting.  Lots of layers to go still, but I'm feeling like I'd rather give up sleep to paint more...which is good and bad, considering my daughter is totally into waking up before 7am these days.

~ Tonight eye should watch a little sketch theatre.

a new plan

So, I'm finally going to attempt to make a living off of my art.  I feel like at 33 I should have had this in the bag by now, but it's never too late to pursue a dream, right?

At times I feel like I've missed out on a lot because I've been so worried about doing things wrong,...from sketches, to paintings,...to blogs.  But how do you progress in life without challenges?  So, here's to getting past feelings of self-doubt.  Hopefully you guys will enjoy my blogging and art, and maybe I'll inspire a few along the way.

My plan is to have my first art show by next spring or summer.  It's not going to be the easiest thing to pull off, but definitely doable.  If you want to follow along and see how that pans out, it should be interesting : )

So, enough thinking and more doing.  First things first, I need to get to painting more.  I'm about halfway done with my first real painting in a long while.  I'll be cranking out lots more in the next few months.  The thoughof it all is pretty exciting and scary...now let's just hope there are people out there that dig my art...

Here's a progress pic of the painting I'm working on now..,

~ Tomorrow eye should paint more and write less ; )
